SOCIAL MINISTRY.....CHRISTIAN MINISTRY

Have you ever been asked the question, "If your house was on fire and you could only salvage 3 things, what would they be?" The question is really asking, "What is most important?" That is also the issue when you ask the question, "What is the difference between "Social Ministry" and "Christian Ministry?" The issue is what's most important. Actually, Jesus answered the question when Hes asked another, "What good is it for a man to gain the whole world, yet forfeit his own soul?" In other words, if my hunger is fed, my nakedness clothed, my homelessness given shelter, or my empty bank account filled to overflowing and that is all I receive, what difference will that make in my eternity? Social ministry deals with the "here and now," but never addresses "forever."

If you follow Jesus through His earthly life, you find Him meeting the needs of people. He fed the hungry, gave sight to the blind, and made lame legs whole. And, we should do as Jesus did. Meeting the "here and now" needs of people is love in action. But, Jesus never stopped there. He also, and most importantly, told them how they could have "eternal life." He met their their "here and now needs" and He met their "forever" need. Social ministry seeks to meet the needs of people here and now. Christian ministry seeks to meet the needs of people here and now AND FOREVER? How? My making the good news of Jesus Christ the most important thing. Why? Because the gospel meets the "forever" need of every person. InJoy meets the "here and now" needs of people by providing quality items for very low prices. InJoy also meets their "forever" need by offering them the "good news" of Jesus Christ and by helping fund other Christian ministries that do the same. Christian ministry is about what is most important......the eternal soul!
